"Chinese New Year 2025". Why do Filipinos observed the celebration of Chinese New year?
Chinese New Year is also an observed festival by Filipinos due to the rich historical and cultural ties between China and the Philippines. The Philippines has a large number of Chinese-Filipino or colloquially referred to as *Tsinoy* citizens who have been meaningfully contributing to the economy, culture, and society of the country. Chinese habits and customs have entered the way of Filipino life via centuries-long trade and migration of Chinese people.
Chinese New Year, or Lunar New Year, is commemorated as a way of honoring ancestors, ushering in good fortune, and signaling the start of a new year under the lunar calendar. Filipinos, despite having no Chinese heritage, observe the holiday because of Chinese influences on Filipino traditions. Traditions like the presentation of red packets (ang pao) for good luck, preparing special foods for prosperity, and decor with symbols of good fortune are all common. The celebration is now part of the social culture among the Filipino society, as local practices mingle with Chinese practices, and is typically considered a celebratory period for family reunions, get-togethers, and wishes for good fortune and good health in the coming year.
